REACH increasingly provides evidence for the impact of early engagement in physical activity in the ageing population

In order to develop a holistic REACH concept which delivers quantifiable values, it is necessary to follow a standardized yet adaptable roadmap covering testing and outcomes of all used cases and touch-points. Medical outcomes will play a key role because REACH is addressing to improve the physical and mental health of patients and the elderly, and thus enhance their overall quality of life. The value of the system and its impact are only assessed with comparable data in all test scenarios at the European level. The changes induced by the REACH system will be proved by measuring relevant data, e. g., savings in Euro, walking steps per day, and independence level etc.

As the first step, all the information and data related to the relevant completed and ongoing projects were collected and structured on a relational base. A Trial Report Questionnaire as a preparatory tool for the planning stage has been developed to guarantee the quality and completeness of the trial data. The next step is integrated data analysis which needs to collect identical or similar assessments and/or tasks to allow a comprehensive comparison in REACH. A careful selection will prevent overlapping and redundancy at this stage. Meanwhile, the core assessments will be defined so that the partners can use as first priority whenever it´s scientifically reasonable.

With the support from DTU and CU, the Trial Report Questionnaire was adjusted according to the advanced clinical testing conditions. The newly added fields allow to describe not only the planned trials but also the results and conclusions, show the deviations from the original protocol and amendments, and focus strongly on medical outcomes and common assessments. CU created an electronic version of the template that facilitates timely and structured reporting of trial results as well as comparisons among trial and Touchpoints. The Trial Report Questionnaire will be available online.

Furthermore, REACH is working on generating synergy effects of trial clusters by analyzing the data from several trials with similarities in design and data structure.
