Elderlies often have a sense of distance and obstacles to new technologies, although the technologies can likely help them, for example, motivating them to increase their physical activities and thus improve their independence and quality of life. In order to solve this challenge and bring elderly participate more engaged in a life experiment research, Philips and TU/e developed a product-service-approach. With this approach, the elderly participants get a mobile phone and action tracker first with enough time to get themselves familiar with and adapt to the devices in advance. If they have questions or problems, they can consult a help desk service for help. After this important step, an intervention APP will be introduced to them for use. The APP – a sub-system of Touchpoint 3 – is a community interactive interface platform that allows the elderly participants to track and record their steps and encourage each other to do more physical activities together.
